Sixers' Camp @ Sarimbun / Thursday, December 14, 2006

Dear Oneida Gang,

I'm feeling exhausted yet fulfilled.

The primary 4 cubs have just completed a 3 day 2 night camp at Sarimbun camp, replete with sleeping bags, mosquito bites and a hundred and one memories. Talk about surviving the trappings of a rural, unadulterated campsite!

The boys truly enjoyed themselves although some were initially unaccustomed to tough living such as sleeping on hard wooden platforms in their dorms, completing activities in the hot sun and bathing in the dank, moth-infested toilets. However, it was the bondage with other fellow scouts that was ultimately meaningful to them.

The boys cheered, laughed, worked as a team and even put up a skit on the night of the campfire. I am simply pleased to say that my own Oneida cubs have done me proud. They proved to be survivors after all!

Here are some pictorial evidence!

Cubs orientation- All geared up for the camp.
We've changed into our home clothes but we still have our Oneida blue trademark scarf!
After lunch - all full and contented!

Mini-pioneering activity! - Cubs attempting to create solid, aesthetically-pleasing structures. You don't need expert spatial skills for this - just sharp eyes, adroit fingers and a good sense of direction to twirl the ropes around the chopsticks!
Syamil's half-completed mini-tent!
Thats the Oneida spirit!
We even met our senior scouts from East Spring Secondary!
On the night of the campfire, several distinguished guests were invited. That's Huming Bee & Steady Wolf with our VIPS. (The cubs asked me what my scouting name was, and I answered; "Shopping Queen" - and they believed me! Hehe)
Cheers!
And finally... all ready to depart for home sweet home!

At the end of the camp, I was certain that the fundamental objectives were met. The cubs were definitely tougher, had their physical and mental endurance challenged and their survival instincts were definitely induced!

We had a blast at Sarimbun Camp!
